Actor Mark Salling, who was best known for his role as Noah “Puck” Puckerman on the comedy TV series “Glee,” has died in an apparent suicide while awaiting sentencing for child pornography. He was 35 years old.

Salling was found dead on Tuesday at a baseball field in the Sunland area of Los Angeles, where the former actor lived. He is thought to have died by hanging in an apparent suicide, according to entertainment news website TMZ, which said Salling appeared to have been dead for some time.

“I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning,” his lawyer, Michael J. Proctor, said in a statement. “Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment.”

The actor was arrested in December 2015 after a woman told law enforcement that Salling had shown child pornography to her. A subsequent search revealed more than 25,000 images and videos of children engaged in sexual conduct, including children as young as 5.

Salling pled guilty in December and acknowledged that he downloaded the images from the internet and was using software which was designed to conceal his activity. Under a plea agreement, he was expected to receive 4 to 7 years in federal prison, followed by 20 years of supervised release.

Salling was well known for his role as Noah “Puck” Puckerman on the musical comedy-drama “Glee,” which aired on FOX from 2009 to 2015.
