Shooting outside the National Security Agency in Maryland

Police and other emergency services are investigating a shooting outside the headquarters of the National Security Agency (NSA) in Fort Meade, Maryland, local officials say. There are reports of multiple victims.

The incident happened at about 7:15 a.m. ET on Wednesday when officers were called to reports of a shooting at the visitors gate to the NSA headquarters in Fort Meade. Details about the circumstances were not immediately available.

According to initial reports, at least three people are believed to have been shot, but there was no immediate word on their conditions or identities. One suspect, whose identity was not immediately known, was taken into custody.

Video from the scene showed an SUV with bullet holes in its windshield at the entrance to the NSA headquarters. The vehicle appeared to have struck a concrete barrier on the side of the road. Highway 32 has been closed in both directions, according to Fort Meade officials.
