An investigation has been launched after a suspected drone struck British Airways Flight 727 as it prepared to land at London’s Heathrow Airport, police say. The aircraft landed safely and there are no injuries.

The incident happened at about 12:50 p.m. local time on Sunday when Flight BA727 prepared to land at Heathrow after a flight from Geneva. A total of 132 passengers and 5 crew members were on board.

“A pilot on an inbound flight into Heathrow Airport from Geneva reported to police that he believed a drone had struck the aircraft,” the Metropolitan Police Service said. “It transpired that an object, believed to be a drone, had struck the front of the aircraft.”

Police said no arrests were immediately made and aviation police based at Heathrow have launched an investigation.

A British Airways spokesman said the aircraft landed safely and was fully examined by engineers before being cleared to operate its next flight. “Safety and security are always our first priority and we will give the police every assistance with their investigation,” he said.
