Deputies in California are carrying out a death investigation at Apple’s Cupertino campus after an employee was found dead inside a conference room. The death is believed to be a suicide though authorities have yet to confirm that.

The incident began at 8:35 a.m. PT on Wednesday when deputies were dispatched to Apple’s campus for a call of a “person down” inside the building, according to Sgt. Andrea Urena, who is a spokeswoman for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

“When they responded to the campus they found one individual – male – down [and] determined that he was deceased,” Sgt. Urena said. “Upon further investigation they determined that there were no other individuals involved, and they believe it’s an isolated incident.”

Although Urena declined to provide specific details, an audio recording of a dispatcher indicated that deputies were called for a person possibly armed with a gun who was “bleeding from the head.” The incident happened while the employee was being escorted out by security, he added.

The dispatcher used the code 10-56, which is the police code for a suicide.

The identity of the Apple employee was not immediately released and the death is now under investigation by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.

The Apple Campus is the corporate headquarters of Apple Inc., located at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino. Its design is similar to that of a university.
