Eight people have been injured after gunfire erupted outside the Vinyl restaurant and night club in downtown Oakland, local authorities say. Two of those injured are believed to be suspects and have been placed under arrest.

The incident happened just after 12 a.m. PT on Saturday when Oakland police officers were called to reports of a shooting just outside the Vinyl nightclub at 420 14th Street in the downtown area. Officers who were nearby also heard the gunfire.

All the shots are believed to have been fired outside the nightclub, but details about the exact circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known. One bouncer was seen holding a gun moments after the shooting but it is unknown if he fired any shots.

Witnesses described the scene outside the nightclub as chaotic. “When officers arrived on scene, multiple victims were medically transported to local hospitals and some victims [self-transported] to local hospitals,” a police spokesperson said.

Police found a total of 8 people suffering from gunshot wounds, including 6 victims and 2 suspects. The victims were described as four females and two males between the ages of 17 and 28, while the two suspects were said to be two men ages 17 and 21. One victim is in critical condition.

“The Oakland Police Department Felony Assault Section investigators are conducting an investigation,” the spokesperson said.
