To celebrate ‘safer internet day’, tech giant Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is offering users who complete an account security checkup which they claim will only take minutes.

In a bid to enhance user security Google has run the promotion two years in a row. Users are required to verify two-step security settings, provide account recovery information such as an alternate email address and phone number, and clean up permission settings for apps which have access to the account.

Upon completion, users will be rewarded with 2GB of Google Drive space, even if they have been recipients of the reward in previous years.

Google Drive is part of Google’s cloud storage space program. With tech firms across the world including IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), pushing to grow in the cloud storage sector, is this promotion a shrewd and prudent business move by the world’s leading tech firm?

Either way, those who want to claim their free storage space and enhance their account security can do so now. Get it while it lasts!
