UPDATE 1 – Man opens fire at Wisconsin software company, injuring 4

Four people have been taken to hospital after a man opened fire at an office building in Middleton, Wisconsin, local officials say. The suspect was also shot and taken to an area hospital.

The incident began at about 10:25 a.m. CT on Wednesday when officers were called to reports of an active shooter at 1850 Deming Way, which is home to WTS Paradigm, Esker Software, and other companies.

Witnesses said a man had walked into one of the software companies and opened fire, injuring multiple people. There was no immediate word on the suspect’s identity or motive, but the situation was quickly contained.

A large number of emergency services, including a SWAT team and multiple ambulances, responded to the shooting. Greenway Station Mall and nearby schools were put on lockdown as a precaution.

City Administrator Mike Davis told the Wisconsin State Journal that 5 people had been shot, including 4 victims who were taken to area hospitals. The suspect was also shot and was reported to be in critical condition.
