A car has plowed into a pizza restaurant in Sept-Sorts near the French capital of Paris, killing at least one person and injuring a dozen others, local officials say. It is not believed to be linked to terrorism.

The incident happened on early Monday evening when a car crashed into a pizza restaurant in Sept-Sorts, which is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department, about 58 kilometers (36 miles) northwest of Paris.

Local authorities said a 13-year-old girl was killed and 12 others were injured, including five people who suffered serious injuries. Photos from the scene showed that the vehicle had plowed into the pizzeria’s outside seating area.

The 39-year-old driver was arrested at the scene but there was no immediate word on his identity. He was not known to the intelligence services.

The prosecutor’s office said the crash was intentional but, based on the driver’s statements, it is not believed to be linked to terrorism. The driver told police that he wanted to commit suicide and also had weapons in his vehicle, RTL reported.
