The chief executive of television network CBS (NYSE:CBS), Les Moonves, has said that the US-based company is likely to sign a deal for content on the Apple TV set-top box. Apple is widely believed to be planning a cut-down package of TV channels, and Moonves says that CBS is likely to be included in the highly anticipated service.

“We will probably do a deal with Apple TV”, Mr Moonves said during a conference.

In future, many customers are less likely to subscribe to one huge package of TV channels, he said. Mr Moonves, who is one of the most well known and respected figures in the US TV industry, set that he met with senior Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) executives last week, and that talks are currently ongoing. He spoke at a conference hosted by Re/code, a technology news and analysis website.

In March, the TV channel HBO launched its streaming service in the US only called HBO Now. For the initial three-month period it was exclusive to Apple devices, including the Apple TV set-top box. Such services are becoming a challenge to US cable TV companies who fear that subscribers will cancel if they cannot access premium channels like HBO, online.

Speculation and rumours have been rife that Apple is planning a big move into TV, and it’s reported that the Cupertino-based company will launch a new Apple TV box next month at its annual WWDC developer conference.
